You might have already read it somewhere, in the newsletter or on Instagram: we have a new house! It's super exciting, of course, but also intense. Especially because it's in a different part of the country; everything is new. Strange times, then, which calls for self-care with... coziness, of course! In this blog post, you can read all about the craziness of the moment and what coziness means to me in it.
moreExciting
Rationally, I can put it all into perspective. DIY, moving, renovating, new surroundings, busy with the webshop, and oh yeah... a concussion (the hatch to the new attic was apparently open, ouch!). But emotionally, I notice that I (often unconsciously) find it all overwhelming and very exciting. You know that feeling? When you've thought it all through and can think it through, but your feelings still have a mind of their own?
So yes... I'm nervous. Part of me is downright terrified. So it's important to take the best possible care of myself, and that naturally includes being cozy.
Cosy self care
I don't have the time or space to do all the cozy things I'd like to do, but I've selected a few that work really well for me.
Walking in the autumn splendor
It's wonderful to breathe in the autumn scents, watch the dogs run around, and marvel at the beautiful mushrooms. I always come home feeling different after spending an hour in the woods.
Familiar book
So I'm someone who can reread books, including the Harry Potter ones. Wonderfully familiar, wonderfully relaxing, and cozy! A cup of tea, a piece of chocolate, and I have a nice recharge moment (even if it's not for very long).
Puzzling
Even though I don't really have the time, I can still fit in a few pieces. A moment of nothingness, wonderful!
To paint
I try to make an illustration once a week, just for self-care. It's something I need (I also started painting as a form of therapy for my PTSD). I find that I recharge just by feeling and thinking about what I want to create. And of course, that's super cozy!
Evening tea
In the evenings, I'm not at my best and can't do much. So it's a good idea to make it a cozy self-care moment. I make it cozy with lights and candles (as much as possible among the moving and DIY clutter). I make a pot of tea, dig out some chocolate or a cookie from somewhere in a cupboard. With a book and a blanket over me, I have a wonderfully cozy moment on the couch!
Puppies
The dogs are more than happy to cuddle and play. Playing with them is perfect for me to escape my thoughts for a moment. It allows me to be present in the here and now and romp around. Afterward, a good cuddle session helps me calm down (because a dog on top of you or right up against you means you really have to sit still for a moment, which works well for me when I'm busy!).
Cosy wish list
Luckily, I know we're taking a break from renovations in December. So I have a list of things I'm already looking forward to doing then. Thinking about those things (and probably giving myself a break from DIY) helps too! My list includes:
- Playing board games (current favorite: wingspan!)
- Baking a cake
- Watching a movie together under a blanket
- Setting up and using the Advent calendar again
- Reading a lot of books
- Light a fire in the garden and bake rolls
- Beautiful hikes in our new environment
What do you do?
Now, I'm not normally this busy, so this is just a strange time for me. But perhaps you're often busy, or have you ever had a strange period? What did you do for self-care? Let me know, I could use any tips, and maybe others can too!
