My favorite games

cosy spelletjes

Long promised, incredibly high demand on Instagram, and finally, it's here! A blog post with my current favorite games! And of course, they're all nice and cozy!

Wingspan - a relaxing bird game full of tactics

I don't like games that make you rush. In fact, I prefer slower-paced games where you can just relax and enjoy the activity. Wingspan is such a calm game, but absolutely challenging! You're the owner of your own real bird sanctuary. You try to find birds as best you can, feed them enough, and get them to lay eggs. It's a simple game to learn (which I find so enjoyable these days!), but you can make it as tactical as you like. Think ahead, plan, or just see what happens. And of course, getting to know the birds is really fun! We have the European Birds expansion, which makes it even more fun—not necessarily for gameplay variety (though it certainly offers some fun new features), but because now you recognize all the birds!

Everdell - Build your own city in the magical forest

My favorite for a rainy Sunday: Everdell! This game is a bit more complex and takes a bit longer than Wingspan, but it's absolutely worth it. It's also a relaxed game—no rush, no time limit, no crowds. You build your own city in several rounds, collecting building materials and points. You can play smart by choosing the right cards (buildings or residents) for your city. What I love about this game (besides the beautiful design and illustrations, of course) is that it's just so cozy and fun to build your own city!

Beez - Collecting honey with your bee

A short, powerful, simple, yet enjoyable puzzle game. Beez is simply beautiful to begin with, and the concept—flying around with your own bee collecting nectar—is wonderfully relaxing! It's another game without the rush; you can really relax and play. Collect the different colors of nectar to score points—it's a great way to puzzle away. At first, I had to get used to the many different goals, but after a few games, I got the hang of it. We did find the game a bit too short at times, and now we sometimes just play it with two honeycombs (highly recommended!), which immediately becomes a "rainy Sunday afternoon game" instead of a "quick-playing game."

Calico - Making a cozy patchwork blanket

Calico is a true puzzle game. It feels like you're sitting in front of a crossword puzzle and are delving into it intently. Everyone creates their own patchwork quilt in this game. You piece together all the pieces to earn points (for example, by attracting cats). It's tactical, but not entirely controllable; there's a real element of luck involved. Calico requires a bit more concentration, doesn't take too long, and is incredibly easy to learn. A fun game for in-between games or, as we did, a whole contest to hold during your vacation (the rules even include checklists for this).

That was them then

My current favorite board games. I'm so looking forward to those cozy, dark days where you play endless board games. Now I'm curious to know what your favorites are. Especially now that you know my favorite, perhaps you know another game that shouldn't be missing from this list. Let me know!
