A look behind the scenes - the warehouse

Een kijkje achter de schermen - het magazijn

Just because I am completely used to how my company works it doesn’t mean that it’s not fun for you to take a look behind the scenes! So let’ take a look at the warehouse where all of your cosy parcels are sorted, wrapped and sent off!

Back in time

A few years ago, I used to wrap my own parcels. And of course I absolutely loved it! Unfortunately (and of course, not unfortunately, but wonderfully;-)) there number of order grew so much that I didn't have time to paint anymore, and I knew I had to keep painting, or this adventure would quickly end. Besides, painting is my outlet and "therapy". It becamse very clear that something had to change.

But how?

I considered and tried everything. I had help packing parcels in my studio, I talked to various companies about outsourcing the process. And then, one rainy day, I suddenly found myself in Deventer with the guys from Maximus Packing . They had just started their own business, were willing to contribute ideas, and were up for this unusual adventure. Because, let's be honest, I'm a bit of an odd duck in the world of warehousing and packaging, with all my handmade bits and bobs, including over 100(!) different cards.

And how does that work?

Back to that behind-the-scenes look. What happens when you order a bunch of cosy products? Well first of all your order automatically gets put through to the warehouse. This is where a really lovely group of people work in "my corner" of the warehouse. They carefully select all of the products you've ordered and neatly sort them into a parcel. If anything in that part of the warehouse is out of stock they make a quick trip to the special Esther Bennink pallets and grab a new box. I visit there every two weeks and bring in new stock because I do a lot of the packing myself. I sign and package the art prints, stick the washi tape, assemble the cosy UP packages, and pin the pins onto cards. Every time I go there, it feels surreal (but also cosy!).

Unreal

It's so strange to see so much of my own work all in one place! And the massive PostNL trolleys filled with  your parcels bring me so much joy! And when I walk along to the pallet storage area, I'm always shocked! There's just so much! I don't really spend much time thinking about how much there is of everything and the enormity of this whole operation makes me cringe. I'm so happy that I can confidently leave getting your cosy parcels to you to the guys (and ladies in "my corner") at Maximus!

Wat een droom zeg, fijn om op die manier weer aan schilderen toe te komen. Klinkt ook heel spannend. Hier heb je heel hard voor gewerkt, chapeau!!
