The birds are chirping, the scent of spring is in the air. There's nothing I love more than opening the doors for the first time and stepping barefoot onto the grass. I spread out a blanket and plop down. I don't do anything, I just watch. I see the first bee, the first fritillary, and beautiful patches of moss that have appeared over the winter. It's spring.
moreI often hear that coziness is really something for autumn and winter. Well, maybe a little more so. But spring and summer are perfect months for coziness, just a little different than the darker months of the year. It's a bit like the Danes' hygge; they don't do and experience it exclusively during the darker months of the year. I think it comes partly from our word "gezellig," which we somewhat associate with both coziness and hygge. For many people, the word "gezellig" conjures up images of candles, Christmas trees, and food, but if you pay attention, you use the word "gezellig" almost as often in spring as at other times of the year! It's simply "differently cozy," just like "differently hygge" and therefore "differently cozy."
Spring cosiness
Cosiness is coziness, warmth, self-care, and comfort all rolled into one. Spring, in particular, offers plenty of opportunities to embrace the cozy lifestyle. How about:
- Picnicking in the grass
- Tea in the garden
- Observing everything that grows and blooms in nature
- Stretching quietly on a blanket in the grass
- Bare feet
- In the evening when it is still dark, consciously enjoy the darkness with cozy candles
- Pottering around in the garden, planting plants, sowing, pruning, wonderful!
- Take your sketchbook outside and start sketching!
- Without a coat (or use those lovely cozy cardigans as a coat)
Wonder and inspiration
Spring is also a wonderful time to marvel at everything that grows and blooms. It's about a different energy you might experience, the longer days, and the seasons. I love living slowly. I love letting the seasons take effect on me, enjoying what each one has to offer. By consciously embracing this, I also find a lot of inspiration for my illustrations. So open your senses, cozy up in spring style, and be inspired!
