I know it's important, but it's always a struggle. Following your gut and not thinking too much. I'm getting better at it, and today I'll share with you the latest discoveries and steps I've taken. (Yes, that painting is one of them!).

Sometimes we end up somewhere without knowing exactly how we got there. This is especially true for a growing business like mine. While I consciously hopped on the painting train, I'm now suddenly (also) riding the "business" train. It's super fun and absolutely fantastic, but what I've learned in recent months is that it's crucial to chart your own course. Whichever train you're on!
Helicopter
So it was time to hop in a helicopter and see where all those trains were going. (Okay, I'm really going to stop with the metaphors now ;-)). It was mainly time to adjust my routes a bit, so I could live a more balanced life. For a few years, for example, I'd known I wanted to learn to paint on canvas, but I just couldn't get around to it. Until this year.
Make time for your priorities
Life always comes with priorities; we just have to do all sorts of things. That's perfectly fine, but if those priorities aren't aligned with your own, you'll feel drained. It was time for me to make a list of my own priorities. Besides painting on canvas (which I started doing, so much fun!), I wanted more time to paint and be creative, more peace and less stress, and especially not to feel like I'm drowning every fall (peak season).
And... action!
Actually, I knew instinctively exactly what I wanted. So I could connect with my feelings, but my thinking wasn't quite up to par. That's a trait of mine anyway; I don't always immediately see how to achieve something. So I sought help, in the form of a coach, and things are now gaining momentum.
So now I'm painting for myself on canvas for a few hours each week, what a joy! Instead of starting my week with email, I start with "me time." What a difference that makes!
There are many more changes to come, but above all I am much more in touch with my feelings and I am more okay with (strange ;-)) things about myself.
Being okay with yourself
Following your feelings actually means being okay with yourself. That you accept, respect, and take your feelings seriously. I'm applying this more and more and learning.
How about you?
