I know it is important, but it is and always will be a struggle. Following your feelings and not being too preoccupied with your head. I am getting better at it and today I take you through the latest discoveries and steps I have taken in this. (Yes, that painting is one of them!).
Sometimes we end up somewhere without knowing exactly how we got there. This is certainly true of a growing business like mine. Where I very consciously got on the train of painting, I am now suddenly riding the train 'business' (too). Super fun and totally awesome, but what I have learned in the last few months is that it is very important to determine your own route. Whatever train you are in!
So it was time to crawl into a helicopter and see where all those trains were going. (OK, now I really stop with the metaphors, mind you ;-)). Above all, it was time to readjust my itineraries a bit, so that I could live more in balance. For instance, for a couple of years I knew that I wanted to learn to paint on canvas (or canvas), but I just never got around to it. Until this year.
Life always comes with priorities; we have to do all sorts of things. Totally fine, but if that is not in proportion to your own priorities, you are running on empty. For me, it was time to make a list of my own priorities. Besides painting on canvas (which is what I started doing, SO much fun!), I wanted more time to paint and be creative, more rest and less stress and, above all, not feel like I'm drowning every autumn (high season).
Actually, very instinctively, I knew exactly what I want. So I could find my feelings, but my thinking couldn't do much with them yet. That's a trait of mine anyway, I don't always see immediately how I can get something done. So I called in help, in the form of a coach, and things are now gaining momentum.
For example, I now spend a few hours every week painting for myself on canvas, what a treat! So instead of starting my week with e-mail, I start with 'time for myself', what a difference that makes!
There are many more changes to come, but above all, I am much more in touch with my feelings and find (strange ;-)) things about myself more okay.
Going after your feelings actually means that you are okay with yourself. That you accept, respect and take your feelings seriously. More and more, I am applying this and learning.
What about you?
